Monday 1 September 2025 - Friday 12 September 2025

Members of the Lincoln-based artist-led collective General Practice will be resident artists at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, culminating in a one-night-only art event.

During the first two weeks of September, members of Lincoln based artist-led collective General Practice will be resident artists at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. This will be followed by a one-night-only art event in the gallery on Friday 12 September, showcasing some of the artworks they have created.

Working under the title Full Empty, the residency is inspired by the 1971 philosophical science fiction novel Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, and the film it inspired, Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker.

The group aim to explore Scunthorpe by dividing the town into zones which they will navigate with curiosity. They will roam, collect materials and stories, photographs, sound recordings, and impressions of the environment. Sites on the edges—half-forgotten, half-closed, sometimes forbidden—will become spaces for discovery, echoing the childlike adventure of exploring unknown places.

20-21 Visual Arts Centre will act as a temporary studio and base camp, where conversations, experiments, and collaborative making will unfold.

Public event: Friday 12 September – 7pm to 9pm

The project will culminate on Friday 12 September with a one-night-only event in the dramatic darkened church-space at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, presenting installations, sound and moving image artworks that reimagine Scunthorpe’s landscape as a site of hidden stories, ruins, and potential futures.

The event will run from 7pm to 9pm for visitors to see the final artworks produced during the residency.

Free entry – no need to book – Please note the current exhibition Luxmuralis – Science will not be running on the evening of the General Practice event.
