About 20-21 Visual Arts Centre
Originally built in 1891
The church stood empty for 16 years before its transformation into an arts centre began in 2000. Many original features remain, complemented by modern additions like underfloor heating, gallery lighting, and a sculpture courtyard with decorative ironwork by artist John Creed.
Since opening in 2001, 20-21 has received multiple awards and recognitions, including a Learning Outside the Classroom Award and Visit England Quality Assured Visitor Attraction status. Today, it stands as a creative hub where history and contemporary art beautifully collide.
Our exhibitions span a wide range of media and themes, including in-house curated shows, national touring exhibitions, and creative partnerships. We also deliver our own touring exhibitions and offer an award-winning education programme for all ages.
Families are always welcome to enjoy themed workshops, toddler sessions, and weekly "ARTivities" in our main gallery.
